Ebikes

An electric bicycle is a bicycle with an integrated battery and electric motor. It allows you to ride with less effort than a conventional bicycle and to reach higher speeds. An electric bicycle is heavier than a mechanical bicycle. It is quiet and environmentally friendly.

Of the variety of electric bikes, the two most common types are bikes that assist the rider in using the pedal, meaning they create extra traction to help the cyclist and bikes that operate in the style of a moped. Both types retain the ability to pedal comfortably.

The electric bicycle works on the pedal drive principle. This means that the motor is only switched on when the pedal is pressed. In this way, the degree of motor support and the battery charge can be adjusted. The speed that electric bicycles usually reach is 25-32 kilometers per hour (16-20 mph). In many countries, the speed of an electric bicycle is restricted by law and cannot exceed 25 km/h. However, if you want to go faster than this, you can pedal on your own.

Advantages of electric bikes:

  • They allow you to ride with less effort and more speed than a conventional bicycle.
  • They are suitable for traveling in or out of the city, tackling climbs, traffic jams and long distances.
  • They are quiet and environmentally friendly as they are battery powered rather than petrol or diesel.
  • They are stylish and modern, come in different designs and colours and can be fitted with different accessories.
  • They are versatile as they can be either motorized or pedal-powered, depending on your preference.

Disadvantages of electric bikes:

  • They are heavier than regular bikes due to the presence of a battery and motor.
  • They are limited in speed by legislation and cannot exceed 25 kilometers per hour.
  • They are not suitable for sports or fitness riding as they do not provide enough exercise.
  • They require charging the battery from an outlet, which can be inconvenient in some situations.
  • They are more expensive than conventional bikes due to the complexity of the design and technology.

Recommendations for choosing electric bicycles:

  • Choose an electric bicycle if you want to save time and energy when traveling in or out of the city. An electric bicycle will help you ride up hills, through traffic jams and long distances without fatigue.
  • Don't choose an electric bike if you want to do fitness or sport cycling. An electric bicycle will not give you enough exercise and will not develop your stamina and muscles.
